Tucked within a heavily wooded former Boy Scout camp, Ranger House reinterprets classic “forest service” architecture through a modern, high-performance lens. Built as a modest home for the caretakers of a multi-generational family property, the design embraces absolute restraint, using straightforward massing and inverted siding relief to evoke traditional log cabins, while framing expansive valley views to the south.

Climate-specific building science and passive solar design—paired with airtight Intello membranes, cost-effective cellulose insulation, and all-wood high-performance windows—ensure exceptional energy efficiency, comfort, and long-term durability. The home carries a deeply personal story of resourcefulness, featuring salvaged wood flooring and leftover tile saved from landfills, alongside hand-applied interior plaster crafted during a community learning workshop. The result is a resilient, purpose-driven residence where every material choice honors the landscape and the family’s heritage.
