BOZEMAN PASSIVE HOUSE BUILT TO THE STANDARD OF THE INTERNATIONAL PASSIVE HOUSE INSTITUTE

3,200 Square Foot House; 1,100 Square Foot Garage

What is a Passive House?

A building standard that is truly energy efficient, comfortable, affordable and ecological at the same time.

Passive House is not a brand name, rather a construction concept that can be applied to any building type and one that has stood the test of practice.

Yet, a Passive House is more than just a low energy building. Passive House buildings allow for heating and cooling related energy savings of up to 90% compared with typical building stock, and over 75% compared with average new builds.

Passive House buildings are also praised for their high level of overall comfort for users. They utilize energy sources inside the building such as body heat from the residents or solar heat entering the building.

Appropriate windows, insulation and air-sealing details throughout keep the heat in the winter in the house, and keep it out during the summer. The ventilation system consistently supplies fresh air, making for superior air quality, health and comfort.

This Love | Schack house is the first Passive House in the Gallatin Valley designed to the standards of the International Passive House Institute. Features include:

  • Unconventionally applied conventional construction methods using structural integrated panels (SIP)

  • Fossil fuel free energy use, with all electric appliances and on site solar panel energy production

  • Integrated design and construction process

  • Permaculture landscape design
